Our Beliefs

Our Beliefs

New Journey is a Southern Baptist Church. We affirm and believe the Southern Baptist Faith and Message (2000). We do not believe it to be infallible since it is the work of humans and not God. We do, however, believe it to be the best statement of belief and doctrine in the world today and for that reason affirm it as the foundation of much of our teaching.
The Bible
The scriptures are the inspired and without error Word of God. They are true, absolute, authoritative, and sufficient. (2 Timothy 3:15-17, 2 Peter 1:19-21)
God
There is one God who is Maker, Sustainer, and Perfecter of all things and to Him and Him alone all creatures owe the highest love, reverence, and worship. (Deuteronomy 6:4-15, Hebrews 12:2)
Trinity
God is revealed to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit each with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence or being. (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
Creation and the Fall of Man
God created humanity in His image without sin but through the temptation of Satan humanity rebelled against God, fell from perfection, & are now sinners by birth and nature. (Genesis 1-3)
Jesus
Jesus is the eternal Son of God, who was born of a virgin taking on flesh and was both fully God and man and the same time. (John 1:1-18, Hebrews 1:1-4)
Regeneration by the Grace of God
Regeneration is impossible apart from the grace of God and takes place through faith in and on Christ and Christ alone. Repentance and faith are both necessary for regeneration to take place. (Ephesians 2:1-10)
Salvation Through Jesus Alone
Only by trusting and relying on Jesus alone can I be reconciled to God and have any hope of life or joy. (John 14:6, Acts 4:12)
The Indwelling of the Holy Spirit
God instantaneously in regeneration comes and indwells a person marking and sealing them as belonging to Him. The Holy Spirit in conjunction with the Gospel and the whole Word of God sanctifies every believer in a visible way. (John 16:7-14)
The Eternal Security of Our Salvation
The born again of God will never fall away and lose their salvation but will persevere to the end. (Jeremiah 32:6, Romans 8:29, Philippians 1:6, Jude 1:24, Romans 11:29, John 10:28-29)
The Church
Jesus is the head of the church, comprised of His true followers. Christians are to gather in local churches that are given authority to administer ordinances, exercise discipline, and conducting worship. (Matthew 16:15-19, Colossians 1:18, I Peter 5:1-4)
The Ordinances (Baptism and the Lord's Supper)
Baptism by immersion where the new convert identifies with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus is an ordinance obligatory on every believer. Its meaning is strictly symbolic.
The Lord’s Supper is an ordinance to be practiced to the church until the return of Christ. It commemorates the death of Christ, confirms the faith, and serves as a bond and pledge between Christ and His people. (Matthew 3:13-16, 26:26-30, 28:19-20; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29)
Church Membership
At New Journey there is a 4 step process to become a member:
1. Attend a First Steps and then Final Steps Session
2. Share Your Story with a Church Elder
3. Sign the Church Covenant
4. Ask to Join by Transfer or by Baptism
First Steps
First Steps is not a membership class. It is simply a discussion on who New Journey is, what we hope to do, and how we plan on getting there.
There is a First Steps Discussion once every two months following our second service. A meal and childcare are provided.
Final Steps
In Final Steps, we give specifics about what it means to be a church member at New Journey, ask that you share your story, and provide a church covenant. Final Steps meets once every two months after our second service.
Share Your Story

If you are already a Christian, this is a time for you to share about your conversion to Jesus.
If you are not a Christian this is a great time to tell us how you found us and how we can help you. No judgment here. We just want to help and hearing your story in your words is the best way for us to find out how.
Sign the Church Covenant
In our church covenant you will find what we believe doctrinally and theologically. You will also find some promises we make to you as a church body and church leadership as well a few basic things we expect from you as a member.
Transfer or Baptism
If you are already a church member at another church you would join New Journey by transfer.
You simply fill out our transfer card and as soon as your former church affirms that you were a member in good standing, congratulations! You are an official member of New Journey.
If you have never been baptized by immersion (dunked under the water) or were not a Christian before coming to New Journey you would join the church by baptism.
Let the church know you desire baptism by filling out a baptism request card and your baptism will be scheduled and once that is done, congratulations! You are now a member of God’s family and the New Journey Church family.
